WSU President Dr. Elizabeth Cantwell and UW President Robert Jones in Conversation with Andrew Lewis
We are pleased to bring the presidents of the two leading Washington universities together during this milestone lunch meeting. Dr. Elizabeth Cantwell is the 12th WSU president and first female leader of the higher education institution. Robert J. Jones is the first African American to serve as UW’s 34th president. Cantwell and Jones will be in conversation with Andrew Lewis.
The poll (linked below) includes a brief summary of each project, along with links to the full application materials for anyone who would like to review them in greater detail (the links are also provided above for those who are curious).
Please cast your vote by Monday, September 7 at 5:00 PM. The project receiving the most votes from ISC members will be recommended to SRSF for consideration. As a reminder, our recommendation does not guarantee funding; SRSF makes the final funding decision.
President John opened the day’s ZOOM only meeting by introducing VP programs Andrew Lewis to moderate the day’s program discussion between political consultant Sandeep Kaushik and broadcast producer, David Hyde, who co-produce a national podcast, ‘Blue City Blues’. The podcast airs weekly about politics in ‘blue leaning’ (democrat) cities.
The two podcasters launched ‘Blue City Blues’ in 2021 and describe their weekly program as a somewhat deep dive into urban politics and culture in blue cities in the U.S... Each podcast features a knowledgeable guest to discuss issues shaping blue cities.
“We want to compare blue cities that have so much in common from addiction to housing and affordability,” Sandeep Kaushik said. “We wanted to get the blinders off about drug policy and other urban topical issues to learn what is working and what is not.”
Learn about FareStart, their upcoming volunteer opportunities, and participate in a service activity during this "lunch and learn" session! The day will open with a presentation from FareStart CEO Patrick D'Amelio before preparing materials for FareStart students and graduates alongside Volunteer Coordinator Sasha Selden.
FareStart is a current SRSF grant awardee.
This event is capped at 20 participants so please RSVP if you wish to attend no later than Friday, September 11.

In an effort to better inform membership of the health of the club, we will start posting member additions and resignations after each month's club board meeting.

Serves to fulfill Rotary's mission of "advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace." The committee selects projects that positively impact the health, education, and welfare of less advantaged people in other countries, with a particular emphasis on youth. Actively works with clubs in our District and abroad to leverage — via matching grants — the amount of money available for a project. Members get involved through direct knowledge of the project or by volunteering. Prior focuses have included malaria projects in Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda; microcredit and water projects in India; de-mining projects in Vietnam and Lebanon; AIDS orphan support in South Africa and Ethiopia; education/literacy projects in Nepal, Chile, and Hungary; and more than a decade of wide-ranging projects in Russia.

Music4Life is a non-profit and project of Rotary District 5030 that distributes musical instruments to public school students in need.
We welcome any gently used musical instruments you wish to donate. They can be delivered directly to these local music stores that are now open: American Music in Phinney Ridge and Kennelly Keys Music in Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Everett.
