JOE OTTINGER: SEATTLE'S INNOVATION ECONOMY
August 7 at Noon
The Westin, 1900 Fifth Avenue
Joe Ottinger is a technology entrepreneur, management consultant, author, and thought leader in the areas of leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation. He is the Founder of the Iinnovate Leadership Network, a leadership network and advisory firm for the innovation economy that provides executive advisory and consulting services for companies seeking to innovate, scale and renew their companies in a rapidly changing, tech-enabled environment. Ottinger is the author of Iinnovate- A Guide for Engaging in the Innovation Economy, and Beyond Success: Building a Personal, Financial and Philanthropic Legacy. In addition, he has written and published numerous papers and articles, which have appeared in Forbes, Chief Executive Magazine, The Financial Times, Worth Magazine, and the Stanford Center for SocialInnovation.
Ottinger will provide a whirlwind tour exploring how Seattle’s innovation economy was built, where it ranks versus other regions nationally and globally, and what its success means for businesses and our community today and in the future.
On a picture perfect Seattle summer afternoon at Bell Harbor, President Kim rang the bell that officially called to order the Seattle 4 Rotary Club luncheon. President Kim summarized the importance of a very special custom that has been embraced by Seattle dating back 70 years: Seafair.
The Seattle Rotary Club officially welcomed the Navy to Seattle, which has become a Seafair tradition. Jimmy Collins introduced the Navy Band Northwest and Evan Vis sang the national anthems of the United States and Canada. Jimmy Collins then introduced the members of the Brass Quartet: Michael Bream, Darryl Forney, Mike Donaldson and Trevor Currie.
Congratulations to member, Lauren Domino, and welcome newborn, August Orie Schroeder, who was born on July 31 at 4:56am. Gus weighed 8lbs 14.6oz and was 20 inches long. The family is doing well and excited to have a new addition!
UPCOMING FELLOWSHIP EVENTS AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Join PAST DISTRICT GOVERNOR ALAN MERRY and GO #BOLD FOR SUE
Sue Nixon is a friend to many of us, a past President of Seattle 4 Rotary, and Chief Marketing and Engagement Officer for Bloodworks NW. Recently she has gone through open heart surgery and past District Governor Alan Merry is asking that we join him in donating blood during the next couple of weeks to support Sue.
The idea is to print out the attached BoldForSue.pdf file, find a local donation site, give your blood, take a selfie of yourself with the printout while doing so, and send the selfie back to Bloodworks. You can support Sue even if you can’t give blood by taking a selfie of yourself while holding up the printout.
The easiest way to find the nearest donation site is by texting bloodapp to 91985 on your smartphone. You can easily schedule your appointment right from the Bloodworks app. Also make sure that you join the Rotarians Bold for Blood Group, so that we can track the community impact we Rotarians are making.
Please send your photo to Katie Bunch, Bloodworks NW Donor Recruitment and Development Director, at KatieBu@BloodWorksNW.org.
1:00-4:00pm @ Trent & Alex Mummery's Magnolia Home
At this potluck lunch sponsored by Rotary PeaceBuilders, you will hear an update on the Healthcare Alliance from project partner, Seattle Against Slavery, and other Rotarians who are participating in this effort. Our most recent strategy is focused on developing training and getting it adopted by our healthcare system.
Morning and Afternoon Shifts @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse in Kent, 22220 68th Ave S.
We have three times more books than ever before so many hands are needed. Most work will be packing books into boxes to send to Kenya. Some people will be needed to move full boxes.
Children younger than 16 need to have an adult. Small children are not allowed in the packing area as it is in a working warehouse. Sign up through the link.
9:30-11:30am @ Capitol Hill Neighborhood, corner of 15th Ave. E. and E. Aloha St.
Seattle City Rotaract invites Seattle Rotarians to join in their quarterly cleanup of 15th Avenue East on Capitol Hill. We will meet at the corner of 15th Ave. E. and E. Aloha St., and will clean up about a mile stretch of the street down to Union. Tools, gloves, and bags will be provided. After the cleanup, we'll be going out for lunch. RSVP through the link below or contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org.
8:30-11:00 am @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse, 22220 68th Ave. S., Kent
Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the district for a morning of hands-on service. You'll be helping to pack some of the millions of pounds of healthy fruits and vegetables RFH provides every year for families and individuals in need.
On Wednesday, August 21, instead of our usual luncheon, Seattle 4 Rotary will host a special community discussion at Town Hall Seattle featuring speaker Jeff Robinson.
Following the public presentation, Seattle 4 Rotary members are invited to attend an exclusive reception with Jeff Robinson featuring heavy appetizers and a no-host bar. Space is limited, so this event will only be open to members and one guest each. Members and their plus-one do not need to register for this event. Please make sure to bring your name badge for entry.
General admission tickets for additional guests are SOLD OUT. Contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org if you would like guests placed on the wait list.
