ONLINE ZOOM PROGRAM July 15th at 12:00pm *Social time starting at 11:45am*
Let's Talk About Race: Engaging in Difficult Conversations
Cross-cultural conflict commonly exists not only because People of Color (PoC) have different experiences from White people, but because our experiences shape our reality, leading to our diverse perspectives on race, racism, and race relations. These differences lead to the inability to have effective conversations that could lead to our collective ability to dismantle our nation's legacy of institutional and systemic racism. There is a saying by an unknown author, “The process is the first part of the product.” In order to address institutional and systemic racism, we must first learn how to talk about it. In this thought-provoking presentation, Dr. Hollins will make clear why we struggle to have effective conversations about racism and provide participants with an effective way to move the race conversation forward.
Caprice D. Hollins, Psy.D. is co-founder of Cultures Connecting which provides culturally relevant professional development and support to organizations committed to improving their ability to work effectively across cultures.
Our short program will feature an update from the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation including the committee projects that will be funded in 2020-2021.
Join your fellow members on ZOOM for a special happy hour get together. We'll hear from incoming President Jeff Borek about his vision for the year ahead and have plenty of time to socialize. Bring your own beverage and get ready to connect. There will be a prize for the best Zoom background and a round of Rotary Trivia!
