ONLINE ZOOM PROGRAM April 7 at Noon
Erik Nordstrom, CEO Nordstrom
Disruptive Change in Retail -From the Pandemic to the Future
In this fireside chat moderated by Rotary member Jonelle Johnson, Nordstrom CEO Erik Nordstrom, will touch on the disruptive change that was already in place in the retail industry when COVID-19 hit, and how the pandemic accelerated these trends. The retail customer has changed how they discover, buy and receive products, and Nordstrom doesn’t believe these trends will revert back post pandemic. The implications are large, not only for Nordstrom, but also for the Nordstrom teams and communities...this is especially true for the retailer’s hometown of Seattle.
In honor of April 1 being opening day for Major League Baseball and the Seattle Mariners, our opening music video today was the song Centerfield performed by Fogerty’s Factory.
The original song is the title track from John Fogerty's first solo album after a nine-year hiatus. It was written and released in March of 1985, and over time it’s become one of the best-known baseball songs, along with Take Me Out to the Ball Game. In 2010, Fogerty became the only musician to be celebrated at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony when Centerfield was honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
While on lockdown during the pandemic in early last year, Fogerty, accompanied by sons Shane and Tyler and daughter Kelsy, began releasing performance videos of previously released originals and covers under the brand name, Fogerty's Factory.
The version you just heard was recorded on John’s 75th birthday in the centerfieldof the LA Dodger’s Stadium on May 28, 2020.
It is my pleasure to introduce to you John Brian “JB” Menefee as a new member. JB’s classification is “Investments”. His proposer was Liz McGrath to whom we express our thanks. JB is excited to be a member of our club because it has a great reputation for serving the community, as well as the world.
Earth Day! Our speaker will be Rotary International President-Elect Shekhar Mehta of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, who will discuss Rotary's new area of focus - the environment.
It's spring! April showers bring May flowers. Learn how to select flowers for an arrangement.
You have a bunch of flowers - now what? Learn some design principles, color choices, how to use floral foam, how to select a good vase for floral designs, and science-based flower care facts.
Bring your own pocket knife, pruners, flowers, and a vase, or just follow along. You will be all set for summer.
Seattle 4 member, Sten Crissey, grew up working in the family business, Crissey Flowers & Gifts. Sten’s knowledge of flower care and handling is based on scientific research funded by the American Floral Endowment (AFE), an organization for which Sten served as a trustee. AFE funds research and scholarships for commercial floriculture.
