As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world. Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.
Thank you for taking action to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.

Ryan Gustafson and the Seattle Dragons XFL
February 5th at Noon
Westin Hotel, 1900 5th Avenue
Ryan Gustafson is President of the Seattle Dragons and oversees the fan engagement side of the organization including ticket sales and experience, brand marketing, content, game-day operations, communications, and corporate partnerships. He was formerly Vice President of Business Strategy and Development for the Sounders FC where he led strategic planning for the organization and all revenue-generation initiatives. Ryan has also worked for the Seattle Seahawks, the San Diego Padres, and Major League Baseball.
Ryan grew up in the Seattle area graduating from the University of Puget Sound with a degree in Business and Economics, then earning his Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Ryan is excited to help build Seattle's newest professional sports franchise which will kick off February 15th against the DC Defenders!
The Rotary motto, Service Above Self, shined from the podium today. Starting with Alicia Flatt and Marli Iverson leading us in the song, My Favorite Things. And, no matter the age or background, everybody seemed to embrace the joy in the words. Todd Summerfelt invoked a portion of the prayer Make Us Instruments of Your Peace. Because of our donations, the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF) announced its large grant recipient. SRSF Trustee, Cynthia Chirot, presented a $40,000 check for Plymouth Housing Nurses’ Station to Executive Director, Paul Lambros, who said that onsite medical care is critical for the wraparound services Plymouth provides to residents.
Continuing in the theme of service, Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best was introduced as our newest member by Seattle University’s business school dean, Joe Phillips. A 28-year veteran of the SPD, Chief Best’s full introduction appears in the Totem.
Meet our newest member, Chief Carmen Best, who is Chief of Police for the City of Seattle. Chief Best’s classification is Government & Policy. She has been nominated by President Kim Moore and Chief Harold Scoggins.
Chief Best grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High School. She then attended Eastern Washington University, spent several years in the military, and worked for Aetna here in downtown Seattle. She then joined the Seattle Police Department where she has served for the past 28 years. She was promoted to Chief of Police in August, 2018.

Last Thursday members received a link to a survey to share your experience of our Seattle 4 Rotary meetings. The results of this survey will be reviewed by a Strategic Options Task Force, which will use member feedback and research to recommend options for how we can best maintain and enhance the elements of our club that provide the most value to members while keeping costs at a reasonable level. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey by Monday, February 3rd at 11:59pm to share your feedback.
If you didn't receive a link for the survey, please contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org.
Don't miss our Business Networking Night on February 20th! More details in Upcoming Events.
Now through Valentine's Day, the club is offering a Sweetheart of a Deal. Prospective members can join Seattle 4 Rotary for an initiation fee of just $100. That's a savings of $350 for an individual member!
For more information about membership, follow the link below or email Caroline at Caroline@SeattleRotary.org.
Do you know someone who you think would be a great addition to our club? Sharing Rotary is easy and prospective members receive a complimentary lunch for their first visit! Here’s what to do:
Step 1 Invite someone to a lunch meeting and decide on a date. You can find a list of our future speakers on our website at:
Step 2 Email Caroline at Caroline@SeattleRotary.org and let her know your selected date, name of your guest, their company or organization, and their email. The office will create a name badge for your guest and a packet of information about membership that they can collect at check-in.
Step 3 Meet your guest at the meeting and enjoy the program. If you are late or can’t make the meeting, don’t worry! Someone from our membership team will host your guest and take good care of them.
Step 4 After the meeting, we will follow up with your guest and invite them to future meetings. We also encourage you to connect with them to answer questions and offer to act as their sponsor.
Our members are our greatest asset. We appreciate your help in Sharing Rotary and keeping our club strong and vibrant!
