CHARLES FINKEL: PIKE BREWING COMPANY
August 14 at Noon
The Westin, 1900 Fifth Avenue
Charles Finkel has entertained the wine, beer and spirits industry for more than 50 years. He is critically acclaimed in the craft brewing industry and has been named in the Who’s Who in the World of Beer and included in the Northwest Brewers Hall of Fame. In addition to being a craft brewing expert, Charles is an artist, writer, designer and entrepreneur. He and his wife, Rose Ann, are part of a team that manages the Pike Brewing Company, the Pike Pub and Tankard & Tun Oyster Bar. Don’t miss this opportunity to get the inside scoop on Seattle’s brewing culture. There may even be samples!
Our member Mark Davis introduced our keynote speaker, Joe Ottinger, who he met 20 years ago through a former member Walter Schoenfeld who was Joe’s father-in-law.
Joe is the founder and CEO of Iinnovate that is based in Seattle. He is the author of two books, “Beyond Success: Building a Personal, Financial and Philanthropic Legacy” and “iInnovate- a guide for engaging in the innovation economy.” Iinnovate “helps implement strategic change to accelerate growth and profit” in the tech sector.
Meet Alicia Flatt, classification Technology, proposed by Jane Tornatore and Michele Centanni. Alicia was born in White Rock, British Columbia, a dual citizen of both the U.S. and Canada. Her father is a professional drummer, her mother works in education, her brother and his wife own a CPA firm specializing in cross-border taxes, and her sister is a music teacher. Following the family music tradition, Alicia spent three years at Western Washington University where she majored in music. Her instrument was the trumpet which she played in a rock/ska band, The Crawdaddies, for five years.
Let me take you back to January 31st of this year when we held one of our networking events. Caitlin was there with her manager. Not only was it her first event with Rotary, but it was her first networking happy hour, ever! While I must give thanks to her manager who urged her to come, it is Virginia McKenzie and Susie Roe, who we should give a round of applause to, as they proposed her to the club under the classification of Accounting. Caitlin fell in love with the Rotary --the people, the passion of the group to better the community and change the world, and her ability to be a part of it all.
8:30-11:00 am @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse, 22220 68th Ave. S., Kent
Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the district for a morning of hands-on service. You'll be helping to pack some of the millions of pounds of healthy fruits and vegetables RFH provides every year for families and individuals in need.
On Wednesday, August 21, instead of our usual luncheon, Seattle 4 Rotary will host a special community discussion at Town Hall Seattle featuring speaker Jeff Robinson.
Following the public presentation, Seattle 4 Rotary members are invited to attend an exclusive reception with Jeff Robinson featuring heavy appetizers and a no-host bar. Space is limited, so this event will only be open to members and one guest each. Members and their plus-one do not need to register for this event. Please make sure to bring your name badge for entry.
General admission tickets for additional guests are SOLD OUT. Contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org if you have any questions.

HONORING STEVE CRANE'S LEGACY
The unexpected passing of Steve Crane, District 5030's tireless champion of polio and malaria eradication, saddened our entire Rotary community. In honor of Steve's selfless efforts, the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation has established the Steve Crane Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund will provide financial assistance to one or more Rotaractors each year to attend either our District Conference, the Rotary International Conference, or a conference related to global health.
If you would you like to support this scholarship fund in Steve's memory, send your tax-deductible contribution to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation, 1326 5th Avenue, Suite 342, Seattle, WA 98101 and write "Steve Crane Fund" in the check's memo line. Inquiries can be made to Jeff Pritchard.
Unless protests are received in the time period required (seven days), the following will receive a "Welcome to Rotary" notification that their membership has been accepted:
Jonathan Holz, Director of Sales for Lish. Individual membership with a Food & Beverage classification. Proposer, Jon Bridge, and Seconder, Dorothy Bullitt.
