Rectifying Wrongful Convictions by Judge Michael Heavey (Ret.)

Judges for Justice (JFJ) has been key in helping four innocent men in three states (Idaho, Hawaii, Ohio) obtain their freedom. Judge Heavey, CEO of JFJ, explains how unethical conduct, called "noble cause corruption," is why wrongful convictions happen; how Judges for Justice uses good will and truth in helping to rectify these injustices.

Meeting Report of Sept. 27

This week was a virtual-only meeting that began with President Nancy welcoming everyone, including several guests joining us virtually from India, on a rainy day/week. Bill Center inspired us by reflecting on what leads someone to “tackle ambitious, audacious goals” and connecting that to our speaker today. He commented that these people all have vison, leadership and charisma and above all, courage in common.  Nancy thanked Bill as “one of those inspiring us in our lives.”

Our own member, Heather Fitzpatrick of Wellspring Family Services, provided an update on their work to address family homelessness, Preventing Homelessness, A Better Solution.

There will be no Wednesday meeting on October 11th.

Instead, we will have a SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE Event on October 10th from 5:30-7pm at the Renaissance Hotel at 515 6th Avenue.

If you drive, there is a special Rotary rate of $10 in the Renaissance parking garage on Madison just west of 6th Avenue.   Our event will be on the main floor of the hotel, with visible signage from the lobby area on the southwest corner of the main floor (visible from the bar area).

There will be complimentary appetizers and a cash bar.  We will have a chance to meet with Seattle 4 Rotarians and learn about some of the ways that Seattle 4 members have plugged into service that has been fun and fulfilling.   President Nancy will provide more information at the Meeting on September 20th.
