Resilient Museum Executives Weather COVID & Grow

Thanks to president-elect Jon Bridge, Rotarians learned about three area museums that survived the pandemic and now thrive in their own unique ways.

Jon moderated a panel of three forward-thinking museum executives, each of whom has embraced their historical roles while launching youth programs to preserve it. Panelists were --

World Polio Day 2023: Let's Make Polio History

Join the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center and Rotary International for a hybrid event commemorating World Polio Day 2023: Let’s Make Polio History.
This event will be an opportunity to celebrate progress in the fight against the disease and discuss the obstacles that remain to achieve a polio-free world.
Learn about what gives us hope in the pathway to eradication, how polio eradication is supporting women on the frontlines, and how the program continues to innovate and adapt to changing situations.
Engage with Ezra Teshome, PDG and a local Rotarian who has been leading vaccination campaigns in Ethiopia for over 20 years, and Tehniyat Khan from the Gates Foundation's polio team working to end polio in Afghanistan. The conversation will be moderated by Penny Legate, former TV anchor for KIRO TV.

Wednesday, Nov. 8
5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Columbia Tower - 75th Fl.

Mark you calendars to join your Seattle Rotary friends and enjoy one of the best views in Seattle!  The topic for this after work gathering is MENTORING with a panel presentation led by Mark Wright and there will be plenty of time for socializing.

Book Club is Back!

The Peacebuilders Committee Book Club is back!  We are reading The River that Made Seattle by BJ Cummings. This is a book about the Duwamish River, a critical resource to the Indigenous people of the area that became a vital utility to aerospace and other industries. The use and abuse of the river shaped the lives of the area’s first people and the white settlers who came later. “Deeply researched and eloquent. Cummings skillfully unfolds the interrelated stories of a much-abused river, an ambitious city, and the people whose lives shaped both the river and the city.”
Our book discussion will be held on Wednesday, November 15, at 11:00 AM before the Seattle Rotary lunch program. We will meet in-person in the Olympic Room on the Mezzanine or 2nd Floor of the Westin Hotel.
The book’s publisher, University of Washington Press, is currently having a Back-to-School sale with 40% off and free shipping through Oct. 31st.  To order through University of Washington Press, click HERE.
