Exercise of Power: A Conversation with Robert Gates
Join us on Wednesday for our 5th Annual Diplomacy Day at Seattle 4 Rotary, featuring an enlightening conversation with former Defense Secretary and CIA Director Robert Gates on the exercise of power in today's complex and challenging geopolitical environment. This interview-style program will explore the key elements of power in all its manifestations, and how the United States might learn from its past success and failures to face future challenges.
This presentation is made possible by our Diplomacy Initiative Task Force, which seeks to impact our community by expanding our global engagement.
One of the hallmarks of Rotary membership is joyful giving. We are blessed with generous members paving the way for our club to make a difference in people’s lives, and every donation makes a difference! Whether contributing to a myriad of local efforts addressing big challenges regarding housing, education, health, and the environment, as well as to international efforts to improve the quality of life for people in need, we have opportunities every year to make a difference.
As Seattle 4 Rotarians, we give on an annual basis as part of our membership commitment. We invite you to make two gifts that will have meaningful impact: the first is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF), and the second is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Thank you for your generosity – it is our combined commitment to attend, to serve, and to give that allows our club to make a difference in the world!

Have you been waiting for an opportunity to lend a hand in a COVID-safe, socially distanced way? You are invited to help in harvesting thousands of pounds of apples from an orchard in Cashmere, WA (near Leavenworth) on Saturday, October 17th with Harvest Against Hunger (HAH).
The glean is scheduled for 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and we need at least 40 volunteers to get the job done. HAH has partnered with local apple warehouses and Northwest Harvest to get picking bags, ladders, and bins for our volunteers, but ask that you plan to bring gloves, a water bottle, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing. And please be sure to wear a mask!

Volunteers Needed at the Rotary Boys and Girls Club
The Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club, under the leadership of Patrick Carter, has taken on the role of full-day academic support and childcare for the Seattle Public Schools. This means they need to ensure students are online and learning with their respective classrooms. What problem does online learning present? Without human touch and guidance, the students are having their share of struggles. Some of them still can’t read or are having problems with basic math. Unlike the kids who can stay at home, they don’t have a parent or guardian to step in and help them when they run into problems.
Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club needs volunteers to come down and help. The time slots 8:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 2:30 are available and all COVID-19 procedures are being followed. No reported cases have been identified during the past six months of operation at the club. Volunteers will need to complete a simple background check and follow the guidelines.
Learn more about the Rotary Boys & Girls Club ontheir website.
