Technology and the State of the World: A View from Canada with Brandon Lee, Consul General of Canada in Seattle
September 25th at Noon
Hyatt Regency, 808 Howell Street
Consul General of Canada in Seattle, Brandon Lee, will share some of his views on the progression of technology and how this is affecting and will affect the world as the industrial economy transfers into the digital economy.
Consul General Lee was based in San Francisco and was formerly Canada’s Ambassador to Silicon Valley and has deep insights into the importance of this moment in global history. He joined the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 2004 and later became the Department’s first Director of Innovation. He has a background leading management and innovation and has held senior positions at the World Trade Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross where he spearheaded major organizational and international reform initiatives.
Our luncheon this week will be held at a new venue, the Hyatt Regency, located at 8th and Howell. Our luncheon will be in the Elwha Ballroom on the 5th floor.
President Kim introduced our main program, Autism at Work, by reading a personal reflection from our member Paul Suzman who was planning to introduce the program today but was called back East for work. Paul’s son has autism and has benefited from Dr. Stobbe’s work.
Dr. Gary Stobbe is a board certified neurologist at the Neurology Clinic and director of the Adult Autism Clinic at UW Medical Center. He kicked off the panel discussion that featured his UW colleagues Natasha Harrington and Hala Annabi.
If you are seeking new office space in downtown Seattle, there is a very strong chance that you will have the opportunity to engage the Broderick Group to advise you. If you do, ask for David Greenwood. He is our newest Seattle 4 member – a Young Rotary Leader in the Real Estate - Commercial Office Leasing classification.

President Kim Moore hosted the first monthly Table Talk with a goal of soliciting specific feedback and ideas from Rotarians at the August 14th luncheon. The topic was how can we better articulate the path to leadership for the club? and there were some great discussions! Highlights include updating the website to promote club leadership opportunities, hosting a committee fair, including brief programs about leadership paths at luncheons, introducing leadership opportunities at orientation and Keeks meetings, and assigning mentors to new Rotarians. All ideas have been communicated to Programs, Governance, and Nominating committee leadership who are working on execution.
