Next Week's Meeting
Wednesday, March 1
Rainier Club & Zoom
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Lisa Bridge, CEO of Ben Bridge
A Values-Focused Evolution to Continue to Thrive After 111 Years
Will downtown Seattle come back? Is physical retail dead? Does anyone want a mechanical watch when they can have an iWatch? With questions and headwinds like these, it could be daunting to be a jeweler in Seattle, but Ben Bridge has gained some perspective over five generations and 111 years and they can continue to remain bullish on each. Hear from President and CEO Lisa Bridge on what the future holds for Ben Bridge and the jewelry and watch industry.
President Beth opened the Zoom meeting with Joel Paget inspiring us on the importance of “redemption” and how we “cannot sit in silence and let future generations pay the price” for us not taking action now. He asked “for the courage for us to do what is right”.
President Beth then announced that an offer has been extended to Mary Goldie to be our new Club Director! There were lots of nice comments in the chat congratulating her on this new position!
Ken Grant introduced our member Stephen Morse, the current commodore of our Seattle Rotary Mariners. Stephen provided an interesting history of The International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians which is the oldest and largest of the Rotary Fellowships. It began in England in 1947 and has grown to 126 fleets, with over 3600 members in 44 countries!
Do you often attend our weekly meetings online and would like to enrich the experience for all online viewers? Or do you arrive at meetings early and need something to do? Then volunteer to assist with the Zoom component of meetings! You will be responsible for letting guests in from the waiting room and interacting with attendees before the meeting starts. We can use a few more hands to help with this so if you would like to volunteer, please email Mary HERE.

Rotary Litter Pick with We Heart Seattle
Saturday, April 1
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Salty's Seafood (West Seattle)
We Heart Seattle is a non-profit that comes alongside homeless encampments to clear trash. This is a harm reduction strategy for the people living there and also a beautification strategy for our city. Along the way, We Heart Seattle offers people living outdoors referral services to housing and drug rehabilitation services. Rest assured that if the homeless encampment we are working near is inhabited, We Heart Seattle will get permission from the residents before we clean. It's not uncommon for the residents to come out and clean with us. Wear sturdy hiking boots and layers for the weather. And if you have one, wear your "Rotarian at Work" tee or Rotary hat. This service project is appropriate for volunteers aged 13 years and older.
We love to see our Rotary members promoting good works in our community and abroad! If you have a project or fundraiser that you are excited about and would like to promote to your fellow club members, please check in with our Membership Manager, Mary Goldie, before distributing information or invitations through our email roster. We value the privacy of our members’ contact information and can let you know the appropriate ways to reach out to folks in our club. Thank you!!
Leadership Tomorrow Now Accepting Applications
We are now accepting applications for the LT Class of 2024, which will run from September 2023-June 2024.
During our 10-month Flagship Program, participants explore the interconnected issues that shape our region, develop and practice strategies and tools to become more effective leaders, and expand their personal and professional networks. The program, which unites leaders of all ages across industries, deepens participants’ understanding of the history and current impacts of racism in our region and provides opportunities to work individually and collectively to advance racial equity in Puget Sound.
Each LT class is comprised of up to 80 community leaders from the private, nonprofit, and public sectors who represent the diversity of our region in race, gender, profession, and geographic location.
I’m reaching out because I hope you’ll help identify leaders who would be interested in participating in LT. You can nominate potential candidates HERE or you can email Megan@leadershiptomorrowseattle.org.
Applications for LT’24 are due April 3, 2023, before 5:00 p.m. so please send your nominations as soon as possible.
