The Westin - for self-park or valet, obtain coupon at meeting registration for a discounted rate of $14.

SUPPORT OUR ROTARY FOUNDATIONS FOR A YEAR OF ACTION AND IMPACT!
As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world. Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.
Once a year we ask you to fulfill your membership obligations and take action by making two gifts that will impact the world. One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Thank you for taking action now to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.
Do you have a friend, co-worker, or acquaintance who you think would enjoy Rotary membership?

Gonzaga University: So far, and yet, so close
February 20 at Noon
The Westin, 1900 5th Ave.
What do Christine Gregoire, Bing Crosby, and Cindy Runger have in common? That’s right, they are all alumni of Gonzaga University, along with many Seattle Rotarians.
Now, while you likely don’t think about this small, faraway school in months not named March, Gonzaga actually has a deep and lasting impact on Seattle - and vice versa. Gonzaga’s President, Dr. Thayne McCulloh, will tell you about Gonzaga’s special relationships with the Seattle area’s universities, and it’s role in bringing the Seattle and Spokane business communities closer together. And, he may even talk about basketball.
NEW! Guests, visiting Rotarians, and members who are not on the meal plan can now purchase their lunch in advance. Online sales end the Friday before each luncheon.
If you miss the cutoff, guests can still register by contacting Mariah at mariah@seattlerotary.org.
Members are still welcome to purchase their lunch at the door.
If you plan to bring a prospective member as a guest, please contact Caroline at caroline@seattlerotary.org.
We started our meeting with the familiar. Linda Rough led us in song with the song Seattle from the 1960's show, Here Come the Brides; Cathy Gibson’s inspiration reminded us of the beauty of the snow, and the patience we need to get through it; we recognized 33 members celebrating 1 to 40-year membership anniversaries; Jeff Borek, Seattle Rotary Service Foundation President, implored us to make our SRSF and Rotary International annual gifts to move us to 90% participation; and the Rotary Business Mentors committee, co-chaired by Bill Marshall and Terry Van Nostrand, showcased University of Washington Foster School of Business students and the 20-year program where our mentors and the students have served over 1,000 Seattle area businesses.
From the familiar, we moved to the nearly unfathomable. Past President Karl Ege introduced the panel of two Perkins Coie attorneys, Joe Cutler and Dax Hansen, who are partners leading a 30 person team specializing in the world of blockchain, bitcoin, and cryptocurrency. Christopher Spanton, Senior Architect of Blockchain at T-Mobile rounded out the three-person panel.
Joseph Smith was clearly meant to be in Seattle 4.
Years ago, he was on a board with Nyasha Tunduwani, who told him of Rotary. He was in Leadership Tomorrow, and Jan Levy told him of Rotary. And then, one day, as Joseph was running in downtown he stopped at a light. Jon Bridge stopped at the same light. They ran to the next light, and the next. They ended up running together for a couple of miles. At the end, Jon gave Joseph his card. (You know you are a serious connector when you run with your business cards.)
8:30-11:00 am @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse, 22220 68th Ave. S., Kent
Join Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the district for a morning of hands-on service. You'll be helping to pack some of the millions of pounds of healthy fruits and vegetables RFH provides every year for families and individuals in need.
Members, family, and guests are invited to a winter sports outing. Attendees will meet in the Denny Creek Lodge at Alpental at 11:00 am for some fellowship cheer and no host lunch, then spend the afternoon skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledding, or simply enjoying lunch together at one of the most beautiful mountain places in the Cascades.
Rotarians from across the district will be teaming up to adopt sections of the Interurban trail for this fun, hands-on service event. Contact our club's event lead, Eric Christensen, to participate. Stay tuned for more details!
For the first time, Rotary District 5080 (Spokane area clubs) and District 5030 (Seattle area clubs) will Come Together in Spokane for a joint district conference May 16-19, 2019.
Keynote speakers include the nationally renowned business speaker, Angelo Lombardo, Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, and the legendary Bill Gates reflecting on Rotary's partnership with the Gates Foundation.
Workshops will help to mold new thinking. Socials and home visits will introduce you to new friends and Rotary partners. This event will sell out, so register soon!
Unforgettable moments are made at the Rotary International Convention, a place where the Rotary spirit fills the air with a level of energy and enthusiasm you can’t find anywhere else. This is the event where Rotarians unite and take action to create true and lasting change in the world. The 2019 event will be held in Hamburg, Germany June 1-5.
The Puget Sound Rotary Network is a great resource for Rotarians to share their business with others and learn about products and services offered by other Rotarians in the region.
