Resilience and Persistence of the Pike Place Market Through the Pandemic
Mary Bacarella, Executive Director Pike Place Market
Join Mary as she is hosted and interviewed by Ken Grant for this unique journey through the past 15 months at the Pike Place Market.
Four years ago, when Mary Bacarella took on the reins as Executive Director at the Pike Place Market, she expected the unexpected, but not a worldwide pandemic.
We will take a behind the scenes look at what the market is, its role in our city, the fears faced during Covid 19, and the powerful story of resilience, perseverance, and lessons learned through community, love, and loyalty to what can only be described as the Soul of Our City.
With those words, President Jimmy Collins, officially ushered in his term as President of Seattle Rotary #4, at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle. Because of the pandemic, President Jimmy marked the day as being the first in-person gathering of the Seattle Rotary Club since March of 2020. Additionally, this was the first public event at Seattle's downtown Westin Hotel, since Covid struck almost 16 months ago. The overall mood was upbeat and filled with renewed optimism.
Your Seattle Rotary Service Foundation is proud to announce the 2021-2022 grants totaling nearly $180,000 made possible by your generous contributions. This year together with members, service committee chairs, and your leadership we established three critical priorities for local area grants. These are:
1) Support the health, recovery, and sustainability of downtown Seattle
2) Support communities of color, particularly the black community
3) Support the resiliency of children and families during and after Covid
The vast majority of the local grants funded met one or more of these priorities.
What better way to reconnect and meet new friends while bringing downtown Seattle back to life than to join fellow Rotarians in a city walk.
We will meet at 6:00 pm outside the WAC and proceed on a 30 - 40 minute walk guided by fellow Rotarian, Doug Seto. Walk at your own pace as we explore Pike Place Market and Belltown neighborhoods. We will meet back at the WAC for no-host beverages and bites. Look forward to seeing you there. Friends and family welcome.
Please RSVP HERE so we can let the WAC how many to anticipate.
