Notice: Change in Billing System for Your Rotary Dues Effective March 1
Starting March 1, you will receive emailed billing invoices from QuickBooks. We ask that you pay your monthly invoice when it arrives, and for your convenience, set up autopay at your end.
Instructions on how to set up autopay (to a credit card or via ACH) can be FOUND HERE. The club is not permitted to do this on your behalf, but bookkeeper Shannon Luedtke, VP of Club Operations Cynthia Chirot, and Club Director Mary Goldie are here to help guide you through the process. Please reach out if you need assistance.
If you do not wish to pay invoices online or prefer to send a check towards your dues, please contact mary@seattlerotary.org so she can outline how to pay moving forward. Some members have chosen to simply pay dues annually.
This transition has been over two years in the making and will ensure a more modern and secure system for us all. Many thanks to club bookkeepers Shannon Luedtke and Shebron Webley and VP of Club Operations Cynthia Chirot for all their hard work in support of this major project!
Thanks so much for your timely response as we make this important transition.
Rotarians gathered on Wednesday, March 4, at the Washington Athletic Club to learn about one of the most popular jewels in the Emarald City – The Seattle Center. Seattle Center Foundation Executive Director Rob Johnson highlighted the history of the Center, the recent changes that it has experienced, and the plans for the future. “I call it our living room because it’s where Seattle gathers for celebrations, for concerts, for protests, for festivals, for clinics, for championships, and sometimes for just a sunny afternoon around the fountain,’ President Jan Levy said during her introduction of Johnson.
The 74-acre campus that comprises Seattle Center began as the location of the 1962 World’s Fair and at the time featured the Memorial Stadium, Space Needle, Armory building, and arches found outside the Pacific Science Center. While many things have been added throughout the years – Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle Opera, and Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum – these visible fixtures at the center are truly only the surface.
“In order for us to really live up to our potential, we really need to make significant investments in a lot of stuff that no one is ever going to see,” Johnson said regarding the aging infrastructure that comprises the Center.
“Many of those buildings that were built in 1962 were intended to last for 36 months, and they’re now on their 63rd year,” Johnson added regarding the importance of seizing the moment to preserve the Center’s legacy.
With a rich history of hosting the World’s Fair, concerts, festivals, and many other welcoming activities, the Center’s age is starting to show. However, its economic importance to the neighborhood and city at large is still being realized.
Johnson shared that the Center generates nearly $4 billion annually in both direct and indirect impacts to the community. In addition to this dollar impact, the center also supports nearly 20,000 jobs as well. This economic benefit is supported by nearly 12 million visitors annually. “We’re the second most frequented tourist destination after the Pike Place Market and one of the top 20 tourist destinations in North America,” Johnson added.
The Local & International Service Committees are inviting all interested members of the Rotary Club of Seattle to help review grant applications. It only takes a few hours in March and April, and you will get a chance to help our club support local projects in revitalizing downtown Seattle, food insecurity, and education. Contact Jevon Powell at jevon@scontrino-powell.com if interested in volunteering for local service review and Maddy Vonhoff at maddy.vonhoff@gmail.com if interested in volunteering for international service review.

Rotary Boys and Girls Club Annual Clean Up Day
Our club established what is now known as the Rotary Boys and Girls Club in the basement of Plymouth Church 1944. The club grew so popular they moved to their own standalone building in 1954, a building funded by member donation dollars and used to this day.
Each year we return in service for an annual clean-up day, tackling tasks such as landscape improvements, kitchen clean outs, painting, and organizing. There is a role for everyone; we hope you “save the date” and join us!
