SUPPORT OUR ROTARY FOUNDATIONS FOR A YEAR OF ACTION AND IMPACT!
As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world. Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.
Once a year we ask you to fulfill your membership obligations and take action by making two gifts that will impact the world. One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Thank you for taking action now to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.
Do you have a friend, co-worker, or acquaintance who you think would enjoy Rotary membership?

Alejandro Grajal The 21st Century Zoo: One Zoo. Many Stories.
March 13 at Noon
Hyatt Olive 8, 1635 8th Ave.
Since 1899, the Woodland Park Zoo has sparked delight, discovery and unforgettable memories for generations of Northwest families. Every year it leads one million people on a journey that inspires a lifelong love of animals, makes science come alive, and gives people the tools to take conservation action.
But though its mission of saving wildlife and inspiring conservation will never change, the model for realizing that mission must adapt to evolving perceptions, tastes, demographics, and even climate change. The zoo is also finding new ways to make it possible for all people to experience the zoo, regardless of their income or zipcodes. Alejandro Grajal, the Zoo’s CEO and a Seattle 4 member, will share how Woodland Park is redefining the zoo for the 21st Century while keeping conservation at its heart.
NEW! Guests, visiting Rotarians, and members who are not on the meal plan can now purchase their lunch in advance. Online sales end the Friday before each luncheon.
If you miss the cutoff, guests can still register by contacting Mariah at mariah@seattlerotary.org.
Members are still welcome to purchase their lunch at the door.
If you plan to bring a prospective member as a guest, please contact Caroline at caroline@seattlerotary.org.
To begin the panel, Japanese Consul General Yoichiro Yamada reminded us that behind success are many untold tragedies. As part of his consular responsibilities, he has had to help Japanese women immigrants who have been abused or abandoned by their husbands. These women are vulnerable because they are so totally dependent upon their husbands. Many don’t speak English or know their rights as residents in the U.S. These experiences led him to become involved in the general problem of vulnerable people who are in the same situation. There are so many that Washington State needs to take the initiative to solve this problem.
