Many Paths to Maritime Training, Certification & Employment

Rotarians learned from the experts how the maritime industry is losing employees to retirement or greener pastures, and how  pathways are being developed to fill those maritime jobs, along with the electrification of Washington State Ferries.  Beth Stowell, Senior Manager of Marine Transportation Operations, and Matt von Ruden, System Electrification Program Administrator, with Washington State Ferries.  They described the challenges of employee recruitment, certification, the electrification of ferry vessels -- and the terminals needed to recharge them.  George Harris President/CEO - Northwest Marine Trade Association, said the recreational boating industry is supporting Core Plus Maritime ( , a Washington based high school curriculum in 26 high schools across the state, to help fill maritime employment needs.
Club Member Fedva Dikmen brought back her ethnic dinners with this week's dinner on Wednesday. Please let Fedva know if you'd like to assist with future ethnic dinner events!

SRSF Giving Update

Mark Wright was the first person to make a donation in 2024.  Thanks Mark!  There are six weeks left for our current SRSF campaign which means you have plenty of time to give!  The campaign officially ends on February 29th.  However, we also appreciate our monthly donors if a lump sum is not possible.  Bottomline is that there are many ways to make your gift:  lump sum, via your DAF account and via monthly installments.  CLICK HERE to access both the SRSF and TRF donation page.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to our SRSF Campaign Chair, Kevin Crane, or any of our Board Members.  You can also contact Jim Moore or Mary Goldie for TRF campaign questions.
Thanks for making the work that our Service Committees do for the club possible
