 President Jon called the Seattle Rotary Club #4 meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. on March 19, 2025, at the Motif Hotel in downtown Seattle Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland from Washington’s 10th District, which covers parts of Pierce and Thurston Counties was the major speaker. She is the first African-American/Korean woman to represent Washington state at the federal level. President Jon introduced Congresswoman Strickland. He has been a friend of hers for over 30 years that includes her time as Mayor of Tacoma and CEO of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce. Congresswoman Strickland made opening remarks followed by a Q&A session with President Jon and then answered questions from Rotarians. Congresswoman Strickland said in her opening remarks that there are major goals she tries to adhere to. - Seek common ground to solve problems.

She said that Elon Musk is using a chain saw on cutting government programs rather than a scalpel. She acknowledged that many people are frustrated with Democrats. She said that many Democrats are fearful and angry. On another subject, she cited a housing shortage in Washington state with citizens and the military. 70% of military families live outside the Fort Lewis post. Affordable housing is a must. |
