HILARY FRANZ, COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC LANDS
July 24 at Noon
The Westin, 1900 5th Ave.
Hilary Franz was elected as Washington State’s Commissioner of Public Lands in 2016. As Commissioner, it’s her role to manage and protect nearly six million acres of public lands, from coastlines to forests, farms, and commercial developments. She’s made it her mission to restore wildfire resilience to our forests and prioritized investments in rural communities. Join us for an enlightening program to learn more about how the Department of Natural Resources is working to strengthen and support urban and rural economies in Washington.
James Beard award-winning chef, Jason Wilson, oversees food preparation at ten local restaurants by mentoring chefs and instilling the importance of sustainability in the culinary world. In partnership with local restaurateur, Chad Mackay, and in addition to motivating chefs, he established Fire & Vine Hospitality dedicated to building enduring sustainability. “What we do is horrific,” he began. "We take beautiful food, tear it apart then serve it in appealing ways.”
Wednesday, July 24
6:15-8:00 pm @ the Women's University Club, 1105 6th Ave.
The Peacebuilder Committee invites you to attend a special film screening and discussion featuring Joshua Seftel, the filmmaker who tells the stories of remarkable Muslim-Americans in this Emmy-nominated film series. This event, moderated by Seattle's own Aneelah Afzali, Executive Director of the American Muslim Empowerment Network (AMEN), is sponsored by Rotary District 5030 Peacebuilders, World Without Hate, The City of Seattle Human Rights Commission and the Women’s University Club Foundation.
1:00-4:00pm @ Trent & Alex Mummery's Magnolia Home
At this potluck lunch sponsored by Rotary PeaceBuilders, you will hear an update on the Healthcare Alliance from project partner, Seattle Against Slavery, and other Rotarians who are participating in this effort. Our most recent strategy is focused on developing training and getting it adopted by our healthcare system.
Morning and Afternoon Shifts @ Northwest Harvest Warehouse in Kent, 22220 68th Ave S.
We have three times more books than ever before so many hands are needed. Most work will be packing books into boxes to send to Kenya. Some people will be needed to move full boxes.
Children younger than 16 need to have an adult. Small children are not allowed in the packing area as it is in a working warehouse. Sign up through the link.
9:30-11:30am @ Capitol Hill Neighborhood, corner of 15th Ave. E. and E. Aloha St.
Seattle City Rotaract invites Seattle Rotarians to join in their quarterly cleanup of 15th Avenue East on Capitol Hill. We will meet at the corner of 15th Ave. E. and E. Aloha St., and will clean up about a mile stretch of the street down to Union. Tools, gloves, and bags will be provided. After the cleanup, we'll be going out for lunch. RSVP through the link below or contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org.
On Wednesday, August 21, instead of our usual luncheon, Seattle 4 Rotary will host a special community discussion at Town Hall Seattle featuring speaker Jeff Robinson.
Following the public presentation, Seattle 4 Rotary members are invited to attend an exclusive reception with Jeff Robinson featuring heavy appetizers and a no-host bar. Space is limited, so this event will only be open to members and one guest each. Members and their plus-one do not need to register for this event. Please make sure to bring your name badge for entry.
General admission tickets for additional guests are SOLD OUT. Contact Mariah at Mariah@SeattleRotary.org if you would like guests placed on the wait list.
