Serves to fulfill Rotary's mission of "advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace." The committee selects projects that positively impact the health, education, and welfare of less advantaged people in other countries, with a particular emphasis on youth. Actively works with clubs in our District and abroad to leverage — via matching grants — the amount of money available for a project. Members get involved through direct knowledge of the project or by volunteering. Prior focuses have included malaria projects in Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda; microcredit and water projects in India; de-mining projects in Vietnam and Lebanon; AIDS orphan support in South Africa and Ethiopia; education/literacy projects in Nepal, Chile, and Hungary; and more than a decade of wide-ranging projects in Russia.

2024-09-18 12:30:00Z | Sep 18, 2024 | LUNCH MEETING: Dr. Dori Borjesson | Plymouth Church | Sep 18, 2024 12:30 PM |
For tickets to this and all other club events this year, please use this link: https://ourmayberry.com/campaigns/270/events Dr. Borjesson joined Washington State University as the dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine in July 2020 after more than a decade at the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, where she established herself as a respected pioneer and leader in the field of veterinary medicine.
She served in various leadership roles at UC-Davis, including as chair of the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology; director of the Clinical Regenerative Medicine Laboratory; and inaugural director of the Veterinary Institute for Regenerative Cures. She specialized in adult-derived stem cell research and spent her last 12 years at UC-Davis examining how stem cells alter the immune system. A board-certified veterinary clinical pathologist, Dr. Borjesson has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. She holds two patents in mesenchymal stem cells and immunomodulation, and some of her recent research has focused on naturally occurring inflammatory bowel disease in dogs, chronic gingivostomatitis in cats and spinal cord injury in dogs. She received the Zoetis Research Excellence award in 2014 for the exceptional quality and productivity of her research efforts in regenerative medicine with an emphasis on utilizing mesenchymal stem cells as a therapeutic option for both orthopedic injury (such as bone and tendon damage) and in immunomodulation.
While her new role as dean means she is no longer in the classroom, Dr. Borjesson has always taken pride and enjoyment in helping to train and motivate the next generation of leaders and innovators in veterinary medicine. Since her first instructor role in 1996, she has taught, mentored, or interacted with hundreds of graduate, undergraduate and professional DVM students. |

2024-09-20 10:00:00Z | Sep 20, 2024 | International Service Committee (Monthly except Jun, Jul, and Dec) | Sep 20, 2024 10:00 AM | On Zoom |
Please contact Alicia Flatt for information on how to attend.
Note: no meetings in June, July, and December
