Jam-Packed Meeting Showcases & Honors Several Club Members

Today’s Featured Program: our member, Rachel Smith, President/CEO, Greater Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce who was introduced by Jon Bridge. Rachel previously worked as Deputy County Executive as well as for Seattle Mayor Greg Nickes and Sound Transit. Her presentation focused on: Championing the Resurgence of Seattle – The Stakes are High (we made them high which is a good thing).

Rachel told us that we now have alignment among voters, elected officials and businesses on the most pressing issues and how to address them, which she has not seen in the past.

Voters are aligned on the key issues of public safety, homelessness and affordability and they want “an all the above approach” when it comes to solutions.

She laid out the many challenges facing the city and the state including a proposal to increase the city’s payroll tax for housing that she called, an “ill-advised measure” given the group that is proposing to put it before voters this fall; and the most concerning challenge: the great decline of downtown office workers. “Downtown is the center of economic recovery: good jobs mean that people will pay taxes and then give back to the community.’’

Volunteers Needed!

The Boys & Girls Club is looking for reading mentors for three of their local area clubs. They are looking for volunteers that can read with one child twice a week for an hour. They would LOVE Rotarians to sign up for this program as it is effective in bringing K-4th grade students to reading at grade level in 10 weeks! To volunteer, CLICK HERE.

Elevate Your Leadership - Apply for Leadership Tomorrow!

SRSF Giving Update

The outreach to non-donors is having an impact as we now have 55% of our club members who have donated.  This is up 3% points from last week.

We will continue to contact members through the rest of March and hope to get to at least 70%.

For those of you who have donated at the $1000 and above level, stay tuned for more information about an upcoming celebration in June.

Again, thanks to all of you who support our Service Above Self motto through your generous gifts.

We appreciate you!

Elwha River Exploration Day!

Walk in the footsteps of NatureBridge students as you explore Elwha River restoration and its history with NatureBridge. We’ll utilize hands-on field science practices to help you understand biodiversity and ecological health, and how the ecosystem is changing post-dam removal.

You will start the day at our Olympic campus with a warm beverage and light snacks, including the world's best banana bread. You’ll have time to meet your fellow day adventurers while packing your lunchtime sandwich as we introduce NatureBridge and the Elwha River. Then we head out into the field to research sites on the Elwha where we will learn about the Elwha River, the impact of the dam in our local community and around the world! Please bring your own water, wear comfortable walking shoes and layers for the weather. The program will conclude on the Elwha River.

Registration is $10 and space is limited!

We hope you’ll join us for this fun and inspirational day!
