Lisa Bridge, CEO of Ben Bridge

A Values-Focused Evolution to Continue to Thrive After 111 Years

Will downtown Seattle come back?  Is physical retail dead?  Does anyone want a mechanical watch when they can have an iWatch?  With questions and headwinds like these, it could be daunting to be a jeweler in Seattle, but Ben Bridge has gained some perspective over five generations and 111 years and they can continue to remain bullish on each.  Hear from President and CEO Lisa Bridge on what the future holds for Ben Bridge and the jewelry and watch industry.

MEETING REPORT

Mariners Seek Authentic Community Connections and Audiences

Rotarians welcomed Catie Griggs, Seattle Mariners,  President of Baseball Operations to the podium in conversation with Past Rotary President, Mark Wright, who has started a new position as Podcast Host at WORKP2P.  He introduced Catie Griggs as the only female president in Major League Baseball and a Mariners first.   “As a woman I am here to do a job and don’t waste a lot of time with that as I work with a variety of people gender and age notwithstanding about how to get the job done, but diversity as a valuable asset for any organization,” she began.  “Everyone has a blind spot so we want people who look at the world differently.”   She aspires to have the Mariners authentically connect with more members of the community.  As baseball operations president she is involved with every aspect of the game from scouting to coaching staff, major and minor league athletes, ballpark operations, marketing, broadcast and construction negotiations and human resources.  She aims to expand the Mariners brand and attract new audiences to T-Mobile Ballpark.

Rotary Litter Pick with We Heart Seattle

Saturday, April 1
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Salty's Seafood (West Seattle)

We Heart Seattle is a non-profit that comes alongside homeless encampments to clear trash.  This is a harm reduction strategy for the people living there and also a beautification strategy for our city.  Along the way, We Heart Seattle offers people living outdoors referral services to housing and drug rehabilitation services.   Rest assured that if the homeless encampment we are working near is inhabited, We Heart Seattle will get permission from the residents before we clean.  It's not uncommon for the residents to come out and clean with us.  Wear sturdy hiking boots and layers for the weather. And if you have one, wear your "Rotarian at Work" tee or Rotary hat.   This service project is appropriate for volunteers aged 13 years and older.

To RSVP, click HERE.

Leadership Tomorrow Now Accepting Applications

We are now accepting applications for the LT Class of 2024, which will run from September 2023-June 2024.

During our 10-month Flagship Program, participants explore the interconnected issues that shape our region, develop and practice strategies and tools to become more effective leaders, and expand their personal and professional networks. The program, which unites leaders of all ages across industries, deepens participants’ understanding of the history and current impacts of racism in our region and provides opportunities to work individually and collectively to advance racial equity in Puget Sound.

Each LT class is comprised of up to 80 community leaders from the private, nonprofit, and public sectors who represent the diversity of our region in race, gender, profession, and geographic location.

I’m reaching out because I hope you’ll help identify leaders who would be interested in participating in LT. You can nominate potential candidates HERE or you can email Megan@leadershiptomorrowseattle.org.

Applications for LT’24 are due April 3, 2023, before 5:00 p.m. so please send your nominations as soon as possible.

Member Wally Kegel's wife Bernice took this amazing sunrise portrait while in Tanzania after the recent Rotary Africa Tour. Thanks for the amazing shot, Wally and Bernice!
