President Nancy came on stage at the Westin To “Don’t Stop Me Now” and introduced Skip Kotkins who inspired us with a story of someone that has inspired him, Thomas (T.J.) Vassar who was one of the first Black students at Lakeside School who then went onto to graduate from Harvard, elected and then served as president of the Seattle School Board and spent most of his career (until his untimely death from cancer) at Lakeside, running the same program that he benefit from as a student (Lakeside’s enrollment is now 2/3 students of color).
Here is a photo of some of the Seattle 4 volunteers who served at Wellspring Family Services on October 25th. Our group festively decorated donation boxes that will be used to collect warm clothing and practical gifts for those in need.
Our next fourth week volunteer service event will be Wednesday, November 29 at the Historylink offices in Pike Place Market! More details coming soon!

Boys & Girls Clubs of King County is honored to be selected as a Spirit of 12 Partner with the Seattle Seahawks again this year! This means there will be exclusive opportunities for our organization to fundraise for our mission at Seahawks games and events throughout the season. Our next volunteer opportunity is coming up on November 12, 2023 for 50/50 raffle ticket sales and we would love to have you there!
The Volunteer Opportunity
What: Selling 50/50 raffle tickets during a Seahawks home game. The charitable proceeds portion of the 50/50 raffle jackpot will go into a pool of funds that will be combined all season and evenly distributed between all twelve (12) Spirit of 12 organizations at the end of the season.
When: Sunday, November 12, 2023

Time: 9:00am thru the start of the 4th quarter

Book Club is Back!
The Peacebuilders Committee Book Club is back! We are reading The River that Made Seattle by BJ Cummings. This is a book about the Duwamish River, a critical resource to the Indigenous people of the area that became a vital utility to aerospace and other industries. The use and abuse of the river shaped the lives of the area’s first people and the white settlers who came later. “Deeply researched and eloquent. Cummings skillfully unfolds the interrelated stories of a much-abused river, an ambitious city, and the people whose lives shaped both the river and the city.”
Our book discussion will be held on Wednesday, November 15, at 11:00 AM before the Seattle Rotary lunch program. We will meet in-person in the Olympic Room on the Mezzanine or 2nd Floor of the Westin Hotel.

Music4Life is a non-profit and project of Rotary District 5030 that distributes musical instruments to public school students in need.
We welcome any gently used musical instruments you wish to donate. They can be delivered directly to these local music stores that are now open: American Music in Phinney Ridge and Kennelly Keys Music in Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Everett.
